Jordan’s Back Carry
Instructions for the JBC (Jordan’s Back Carry)
JBC is my favorite back carry (obviously
). I invented it because none of the other back carries gave me everything I needed. I wanted baby to be up high on my back, but well-supported with multiple layers of fabric. I worked with altering several different back carries, eventually combining features, and the JBC was born!
In these instructions, baby is 10 months and the wrap is an easycare #3 Lagun 4.2m.

First, assemble your tools.

Next, get baby onto your back however you prefer (I’m doing hip scoot).

Then scoot baby up high on your back.

Position the wrap as though you are doing a Rebozo Back Carry, with baby in a good pouch seat and the wrap going over one shoulder and under the other arm. Tighten really well, and tuck the end of the wrap going over your shoulder between your knees.

Grab the other end of the wrap and tighten really well.

Bring that end back over the same shoulder.

Spread the wrap across baby’s back like in a cross carry.

Still spreading…

Tighten over baby’s back and tuck wrap under baby’s leg.

Tuck that strap between your legs and grab the other end.

Take that end back under the same arm.

Spread fabric straight across baby’s back.

Bring around to the front.

Tie in the front.

Ta-da!

Another angle….

Baby loves it too!

Wonderful instructions. Your video presentations are wonderful too. At times I like picture directions better. Thank you for both.
You created this carry?
I’m so glad you find the instructions helpful!
Yes, I created this carry. Near the beginning of my babywearing career, after I had learned a few back carries, I realized that each one had different features that I loved, so I worked on combining features until I came up with Jordan’s Back Carry. The other back carries still have a place in my carrying library, but JBC is my standard, everyday back carry.
took me 40 minutes to get this right. thank for your help.
went fine until the end.
perfect the second time.
my favorite new carry
I love the wrap carry. one question: with my 11 month old, i find the wrap starts out higher up on my baby’s back, but as he wiggles it gets lower and lower until neither of us is comfortable. How do i keep the wrap higher up on his back so that he can’t wiggle it down?
Ok, suggestions: first, make sure you are getting everything nice and tight, in every layer of the carry. Next, make sure you are getting everything high enough to start with. And one more, if your baby will be happy this way, put the layers right up over his shoulders (like this). There’s no slipping possible when baby’s arms are in.
If you are still having trouble, feel free to send me some pics of how the carry starts out and then how it is after it’s slipped, and I’ll see if I can figure out what the trouble is!
Just tried this for the first time yesterday and LOVE it! I’ve been experimenting with different back carries and hadn’t yet found one that was really comfy, but this is it! Thank you.
I seem to have forgotten how to do any backcarries except RTIF so I thank you for this hopefully I can easily teach myself so I can back carry baby and get some housework done
Any tips for getting a good seat in a wrap. I am having the hardest time with that lately.
Getting a good seat is definitely one of the trickiest parts of back carrying. This is how I do it: I take the wrap and tuck it up under baby’s bum, between our bodies. When baby gets used to back wrapping, I find that’s usually enough (they put their legs in the right position automatically), but if it doesn’t feel like a good enough seat, I pull baby’s legs upward, which pushes her bum down, making sure the wrap stays tucked way up under her. Hope that helps!
what is the youngest age one can safely put a baby in a back wrap? my baby is 4 months old , but really heavy (7.5kgs) and the front wrap doesn’t work as well as it used to. thoughts?
Well, the earliest age to back wrap a baby really varies, depending on how comfortable baby is with wrapping, how much experience you have wrapping, things like that. I have seen mamas with lots of wrapping experience back wrap tiny newborn babies. So it’s possible at any age. Personally, I haven’t wrapped a baby that little on my back yet. I’ve usually started back wrapping at around 5 months.
Here are some tips for your first tries: It’s really great if you can have someone there with you for the first few times. That way if baby suddenly gets tired of the whole thing, or if you wobble or something, there’s another pair of hands there to steady you and baby. Once you get a little experience, you can do it just fine on your own, but it’s comforting to have someone there at first. Start with a carry that fits you and your baby’s comfort levels. If you feel like you need to get baby wrapped super-quickly, try Rucksack. If baby will lay happily on your back while you wrap, try Jordan’s Back Carry. Those are the two I usually recommend you start out with. Rucksack is very fast to tie, which can be helpful at first, but takes a lot of practice to perfect; Jordan’s Back Carry is very comfortable and secure, but takes a little more time to wrap. After you get a little experience, try several different back carries and find your favorite! Hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!
Just tried this with a teddy bear. Can’t wait to try with baby when he wakes up from his nap. I’m thinking I may even try this with my 3yo. Thank you
I totally love you for this! It’s great, even for my 4 month old, since it feels so secure, and it was so easy to get right! Thanks so much!
Glad it’s working well for you! Have fun wrapping!
Could the second pass go under baby’s leg? Also, my wrap is long enough to bring around and tie under bum? I find that is comfy for both of us. Wanted to make sure it is “safe”!
So what would happen if you took that second pass under his leg as well, instead of over? I know you have a variation that does two under-leg passes… I’m just curious
This one makes a lot of sense to me.
