Can I wrap a 2 year old on my back?
Question:
Hello I have a couple of questions.
My daughter is 2 years old weighs 25-27 pounds. Can I wrap her on my
back at this age? If so what is the best kind of material to buy for
her weight. What wrapping method do you suggest for her? I am a
smaller build only 5’3. Thank you!
Answer:
Hello!
Yes, you can definitely back wrap at that age. I have very fond
memories of carrying my older daughter on my back all over Niagara
Falls when she was 2 years old and around 27 pounds.
Are you looking to make your own wrap or buy one? If you are going to
try to make one, you’re going to want a fabric that doesn’t stretch,
but has just a little give to it. Something thicker is going to be
more supportive. Honestly, though, you aren’t going to be able to find
a fabric that can give you the support that a purchased wrap will
give. If you are looking to purchase a wrap, for your daughter’s age
and size, I would recommend Storchenwiege, Hoppediz, and Neobulle.
They are the most supportive wraps I’ve tried. I also really liked my
Didymos Waves at that age. Really, though, any of the German Style
Wovens will be lovely, so if there is a certain colorway that really
grabs you, go for it!
As far as what carries to try, the carry I find most supportive, that
I use when we are going to be wrapping for hours on end, is the Back
Wrap Cross Carry. Next, just slightly less supportive, is Jordan’s
Back Carry. I use that for all but the longest wrapping sessions.
Hope this helps! Feel free to write again if you have any more questions!
