Choosing a wrap and carry for a 4 month old

Question:

Hi! Great site! My daughter is 4 month old….I am wondering if it ok
to use any of the positions for her….I am having a hard time telling
the age of the babies on the pictures. We like to go on long walks…I
want to try a backcarry.

Thanks if you get a chance to reply.

Ps we have a “Cuddly wrap” it is about 6m long. I liked it for a
cradle wrap when my baby was small, but now I am having trouble
wearing for a longer time. Any suggestions, should I try another brand
with less strechy fabric?

Answer:

Hello there!

At 4 months, you can use almost any of the carry positions. The only
ones you would want to be cautious with are the hip carries.
Basically, if you are comfortably carrying your baby on your hip with
your arm, so she is holding herself up well enough to feel safe like
that, then she’s ready for hip carries…. Back carries are lovely at
that age. I would recommend starting with Jordan’s Back Carry. It’s
relatively easy but very secure. Once you are comfortable with her on
your back, you can move on to Rucksack, which isn’t as secure, but is
very fast for quicky back carries. And then try Back Wrap Cross Carry,
a more complicated carry, but extremely supportive.

Yes, I would recommend that you get a non-stretchy wrap. Stretchies
are great for tiny babies, but they aren’t really supportive enough as
baby gets bigger. Personally, I prefer German Style Wovens; they are
very supportive and comfortable. Some of my favorite brands are
Didymos, Neobulle, and Hoppediz. They are all slightly different, but
all are great wraps, so just pick out the colorway you like the best,
and go for it! :)

Hope this helps.
