Hi Jordan

I totally understand how you are feeling, I found nesting one of the strangest things during my pregnancy, everything had to be clean and organized, really obsessive do;) Thank you for your advice I am currently watching Ellaro wrap on E-bay and see how it goes if I am not gonna get it I guess I will have to bankrupt buying a new one but I am absolutely sure it is worth it. I just hope my little wiggler will love it to;)

Best Wishes

Hello!

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you this time. I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant with child #4, so things are a little crazy around here. ;) Plus, I was out of town for a little while, so I didn't keep up with my site as well as usual. Again, I'm sorry about that.

Ok, within woven wraps there are basically two categories: German Style Woven and gauze. GSWs are typically thicker, which makes them more supportive, but also hotter. In my experience, GSWs are also usually a bit softer, at least right out of the package (as you use your wrap, no matter what it is, it will get softer and more floppy). Gauze are generally quite thin, which makes them very cool, but less supportive, and have a tendency to be a bit stiff at first. Some brands that make GSWs are Didymos, Storchenwiege, and easycare. Some brands that make gauze wraps are Gypsy Mama and Ellaroo. Since you said being cool is important to you, and since you are drawn to the Gypsy Mama wraps, that may be a good choice for you.

As far as length goes, I would go with something fairly long to start with: the longer the wrap, the more carries you can do with it. But it's also important not to get one that is crazy-long for your body size, because it's easy to get overwhelmed with all that fabric. If you are a medium-ish size (not extremely tall or short, or super thin or fluffy), I would tend to recommend around a 4.7 meter size to start with. That would give you enough fabric to do almost all carries. As you practice, you will likely find that you need less fabric to do the same carries, so if you are on the thin or short side, you might be able to do most carries with a 4.2 meter, but it might be frustrating to start with that as it gives you less room to play with.

Hope this helps! I'm in major nesting mode right now, preparing for baby, so I'm doing more cleaning and organizing than I am using my computer, but if you have more questions, I will try to get back to you quickly! :)

Hi Jordan

Thank you for your quick response :) I think I would like something good for summer - autumn time, no too warm or thick so the baby doesn't get too warm, we live in London and the temperature varies between 17 and 25 degree at the moment and around 14 in autumn.

My boy seems to be quite strong as for his 2 months, he could hold his head up straight after birth and now is able to hold up on his elbows for a little while :). When I hold him in my hands he does seem quite firm and steady.

I think he is also quite big and getting bigger very quick as I said already 6 kg so has almost doubled his birth weight, big boy after his dad so I suppose woven wrap would be a better choice than a stretchy one.

Hmm what else, I guess I like it to be colorful and nice, could be a little unusual like the ones called Gypsy Mama I saw in your gallery ;) not sure which companies make such a wraps. Its color is not the most important of course, but it would be a plus, it has to be good and safe for the baby ;)

Not sure which length would be the best for my size, its 12 and so I could try many different carries.

I am so excited finally getting started with this, thank you for your support :)

Best Wishes

Hi!

Picking a wrap is always a bit tricky; there are so many choices! First, there is the choice between stretchy and woven. It's not really a matter of which is better, but which better serves your needs. Stretchy wraps are generally very soft and easier to use since they have a lot of give while you are learning to wrap. However, they have a limited life span, because they don't work for back carries and most people find they want more support when their baby gets heavier. Woven wraps are generally not as squishy-soft as stretchies and less forgiving to learn with, but they will last as long as you want to carry your baby, and you can do every carry with them.

As far as which brand/style to get, that is mostly a matter of personal preference. They all have different characteristics, so it depends on what is most important to you. If you tell me a bit about what you are looking for (how thick/thin, how supportive, etc.), I can try to recommend some brands that fit your needs. :)

The only reason the babies in my instructions are typically over 6 months is because that's when I had time to make them. ;) Hip carries shouldn't be used until your baby has good trunk control and can hold himself up well. But, other than that, most carries can be used for smaller babies. Back carries are possible with small babies, but require a lot of practice. While you are getting started, I would recommend you work on front carries. They are the easiest carries, and allow lots of snuggling with your baby. :)

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I love to help! :)

Hi
I have been thinking about wrapping my baby boy for too long and I really want to start it asap but I am not sure which wrap I should buy? Max is 2 months old and weights just over 6kg, I am 170 tall and 65kg. There is so many different wraps out there, made with different fabrics and it is all just too confusing, my friend brought me an African leso but it looks completely different than all the wraps I have seen on this page. I understand that there are woven and stretchy wraps but which is better? Also most of the babies in your instructions are over 6 months, does it mean I have to wait or there are certain carries for little ones? I love this side and all wrapping techniques are explained so well but what shall I get for my little Max?

Best Wishes

The widths of wraps vary quite a bit. They come in sizes anywhere from 24 inches to 33 inches. Have fun making your own wrap!

Yeah, I would think a size 6 might be too big for you. A size 5 might be a better fit. I weigh quite a bit more than you and I'm 4 inches taller, and 6's are my favorite size. Hope this helps!

I just want to find out how long of wrap should I order for my body size. I ordered a size 6 and it seems dragging way much on the floor. I am in my third trimester, so prenatal weight is about 125# and 5 feet 4 inches. I am looking at the German woven wraps. Thanks.
